  Competencies and experience Yolande Charles studied obstetrics and gynaecology and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Collège des médecins du Québec and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She began her career at Hôpital St Luc Hôpital St Joseph de Lachine. With a few of her colleagues she participated in setting up the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Cité de la Santé de Laval. As a clinical instructor at the Faculty of Medicine of Université de Montréal, she participated in training many physicians.
